The Bridge

VISION

We dream of facilitating the setup and development of self-sufficient "Bridge" units in key centers across India addressing the needs of local donors and customers. We will also work on leveraging network synergies towards fulfilling a cumulative target of Rupees 20 Lakhs per month by 2015.

MISSION

We will channelise trickles of resources from individual donors and make a meaningful difference to the not so fortunate sections of society through social service organizations. We will strive to satisfy existing and emerging needs of both donors and customers.

Who makes up The Bridge?

"Charity begins at home, but in most cases it ends there.... but we believe we can channelise it to impact the world around us."

The Bridge is truly that "A BRIDGE". The founding philosophy is that small trickles of charity from otherwise disparate individuals can make a difference when they aggregate and are directed purposefully at the right cause.

The Bridge therefore is not directly into service but is committed to support those who are into service. We bring the cause and the contributor (who feels answerable to a social conscience) together.

The aim of "The Bridge" is to channelise any kind of help, be it money or effort, to the needy people of our society by acting as a bridge between the people who want to help and the people who need help. "The Bridge" is also committed to provide any other assistance that is in line with its core values.

"The Bridge" is an organisation founded on 8th August 1995 by a team of young professionals. "The Bridge" is registered under 'Indian Trusts Act, 1882' as a PUBLIC CHARITABLE TRUST.

There are three core functions -

  • Input – Expanding the donor base.
  • Output – Identifying new causes and making a critical difference to them on an ongoing basis.

  • Processor – Accounting and operating backbone activities – visits, meetings, co-ordination and misc. activities.

The Bridge constantly endeavors to find more lives to light up, more faces to bring smiles. As more like minded members joined, the core team grew larger and as a result the Bridge grew stronger in terms of its ability to expand. The Implementation Committe, Task Force and the Navigators are the 3 core teams work in synch with the Trustees (who comprise the Organization Committee). This strong core team is guiding Bridge along the right course.

The Bridge has more than 200 donors who have made repeat contributions. “Any person who has contributed in money or effort or kind automatically becomes a member of The Bridge”. Members interact during the Bridge activities like NGO visits, meetings and functions and through the mailing circuit. The Bridge newsletter “The Bridge on The Web” – updates members with all the happenings in the Bridge family and also doubles as a forum for collecting valuable feedback from the members and NGOs.

What's going on in The Bridge?

Our main criteria for identifying a cause to contribute to (i.e. Output) are:

  • Is it a worthy bonafide cause?
  • Are we by contributing making a "real" difference? (That is the unsaid commitment that we are making to our donors)

We now support 10 NGOs, of various causes on a monthly basis. The NGOs we support are, Anbu Karangal, ARUWE, Gnanadeepam, Good Life Center, Nethrodaya, Sagayam. SEED, The Banyan, Vasantham and Udhavum Ullangal. Ranging from special children, mentally handicapped women, men and children, Students, orphans, aged destitutes to the visually impaired, we support different segments of NGOs. It is our endeavor to reach out to more such deserving NGOs.

  • Anbu Karangal (orphanage for children & senior citizens) – sponsoring educational expenses of 10 children.
  • ARUWE (A day care center for the aged) – sponsoring daily lunch expenses
  • Good Life Centre (Residential care for orphan children) – sponsoring food and milk expenses.
  • Gnanadeepam – (involved in imparting vocational and rehabilitation training) – sponsoring the salary of a vocational trainer.
  • Nethrodaya (Residential care for blind students) – sponsoring building rent.
  • Udhavum Ullangal (oldage home & children orphanage) – sponsoring building rent.
  • Sri Arunodayam (residential care for mentally challenged & spastic children) – sponsoring the building rent partially.

We support life saving operations by donating money after validating the necessary parameters. We have been the co-organizers for the annual event Aatam Paatam Kondattam, a day of fun for the inmates of the NGOs. We have been doing so for the last 3 years. We organize visits to the NGOs along with our members, lending the personal touch. We believe that emotional support and care is what the NGOs long for. We are in the process of looking into the area of exclusive education support to the NGOs also.

Apart from this, The Bridge has also contributed to some miscellaneous causes like:

  • Govt. School for Deaf and Dumb, Tambaram, Chennai.
  • The Kargil fund.
